Preserve the shield for a meaningful hit
Editorial purchase advice based on the facts and interaction source cited on this page.
Tardigrade nullifies a hit each wave, so its practical value depends on which event consumes that protection. Our editorial recommendation is to use it as a margin for a mistake while continuing to avoid contact. A small early hit can spend the same protection that might otherwise stop a larger later one. The source describes additional copies stacking, but the catalog's blank cap field is not used to invent a maximum number of purchasable copies.
Recurring self damage is a major compatibility check. Bloody Hand can consume the protection before an enemy reaches the player, leaving a very different defensive state from the one suggested by merely owning Tardigrade. Wounded makes this especially consequential because its one hit rule relies on limited protection rather than ordinary health investment. Read the self damage source alongside the shield description instead of assuming that all incoming damage is reserved for the shield to stop.
For Danger 5 and Nightmare, our advice is to choose a safer route after the shield is consumed rather than continuing the previous level of risk. A ranged Lucky setup offers another example: diving for materials may spend protection without fixing the blocked collection route. Compare the next shield purchase with the need for damage coverage, movement, or recovery that can prevent repeated contact. The item can forgive a hit; it does not automatically provide a complete survival plan for an entire crowded wave.
Tardigrade is tier 3, price 50, and it ignores one hit per wave. Extra copies stack. While the shield is up, the health bar turns purple. The wiki points it at ranged glass characters such as Hunter, Ranger, and Apprentice. Self-damage spends the shield, which is why Bloody Hand is a bad partner: the hand hits you every second and the shield is gone before an enemy arrives. Wounded starts with one Tardigrade and dies in one hit, so on that character the item is the entire health plan. I do not copy the Bloody Hand stat block onto this page. The interaction sentence is enough, and the numbers live on Bloody Hand.

FAQ
Is this number from two sources?
The item and weapon templates I used are the community wiki. Where I only had that page, the note says so.
Which set includes Tardigrade?
The copied field list places Tardigrade in Base. I do not move a character between sets to match a tier list.
