Editorial strategy: recommendations below follow the cited character rules; the source table records the underlying facts.

Build and shop priorities

Mutant exchanges inexpensive leveling for expensive shop items. Our editorial opening is a simple weapon family that lets level rewards do more of the stat building. The character has no special reason to split into several incompatible damage routes. When choosing a level reward, compare it with the item purchase it could replace: useful flat damage, survivability, or attack speed may save materials otherwise spent at marked up prices. The community Octopus direction is one possible recovery plan; do not make a rare item a prerequisite for a run that must function through the early shops.

Unlock and clear reward

The character unlock asks for two thousand enemy kills. Clearing with Mutant unlocks Octopus. That reward can inspire a later loadout, but it is not necessary to own Octopus before selecting Mutant. The reduced experience requirement and increased item prices are separate rules, so faster levels do not mean every shop purchase becomes more efficient.

Danger 5 decisions

On Danger 5, use frequent level choices to repair whichever part of the current loadout is actually failing. Selecting damage every time can leave a fragile character despite its high level. If an expensive item duplicates a stat already available cheaply through leveling, compare it against a weapon upgrade or a missing recovery source before paying the premium.

Nightmare risk planning

Nightmare advice is to treat the leveling advantage as flexibility, not as permission to ignore defense until late. Increased enemy pressure may require health or armor sooner than the preferred offensive sequence suggests. Keep weapons strong enough to earn experience reliably; the low experience requirement cannot help if enemies remain alive and prevent collection. Save shop spending for effects that the level choices cannot replace.

Compare the weapon classes and available stats, unlock entry, Danger 5 rules, and Nightmare changes before adapting the loadout.

Mutant cuts the experience needed to level by 66 percent and raises item prices by 50 percent. You level constantly and you pay for it at the shop. The unlock is 2,000 kills. A clear unlocks Octopus. MetaBrotato ties the character to an Octopus life-steal build, which matches the unlock reward, so I am willing to repeat that pairing as a community plan. I do not have a second site naming a different core item, so I stop at Octopus plus the leveling rule rather than padding the page with a generic six-weapon grid.
