Editorial strategy: recommendations below follow the cited character rules; the source table records the underlying facts.

Build and shop priorities

Generalist converts melee and ranged damage across the two stats, but limits equipment to three melee and three ranged weapons. Our editorial opening plans both halves rather than filling four slots with the first attractive ranged offer. Choose a close range clearing role for one half and useful reach or focused damage for the other. Then compare flat melee and ranged purchases through the conversions printed on the character. The two types can share stat investment without sharing every item effect, so inspect whether a weapon specific bonus helps three slots or the entire practical damage plan.

Unlock and clear reward

Collect two thousand materials to unlock Generalist. Clearing with Generalist unlocks Big Arms. The simultaneous equipment restriction belongs to Generalist's own runs; it is not an extra condition attached to the material collection challenge. When reviewing the loadout, count melee and ranged slots separately so a promising shop weapon is not mistaken for an equippable fourth copy.

Danger 5 decisions

On Danger 5, assess which half of the build is failing. A strong melee group can hide weak ranged focus during ordinary waves, only for a durable target to expose it. Conversely, distant damage may not protect against enemies already in contact range. Upgrade the missing role instead of spending every level and material on the half that already feels powerful.

Nightmare risk planning

Nightmare extends encounters and makes that division of labor more important. Our recommendation is to preserve an attack route while retreating, with melee coverage available when enemies close in. Do not assume the stat conversions make unrelated elemental or engineering investments part of the same package. Keep health and recovery purchases in the plan so the mixed loadout can survive its positioning demands.

Compare the weapon classes and available stats, unlock entry, Danger 5 rules, and Nightmare changes before adapting the loadout.

Generalist converts stats across weapon types: each point of ranged damage adds 2 melee damage, and every 2 melee damage adds 1 ranged damage. You may hold only 3 melee and 3 ranged weapons. The unlock is collecting 2,000 materials. A clear unlocks Big Arms. MetaBrotato describes the mix. I plan six slots as three and three on purpose, because a fourth ranged weapon does not fit the rule.
