Editorial strategy: recommendations below follow the cited character rules; the source table records the underlying facts.

Build and shop priorities

Chunky links maximum health to damage and receives stronger maximum health modifications. Our editorial opening keeps the weapon family simple while building a health buffer that contributes offensively as well as defensively. Consumables restore extra health, giving collection and space control particular value. Life steal, regeneration, dodge, and speed have substantial restrictions or penalties in the character rules, so a normal fast life steal build is a poor template. Evaluate the displayed stat change before buying one of those lines. A health purchase is especially attractive when its item drawbacks do not undermine the weapon pattern needed to reach consumables safely.

Unlock and clear reward

Chunky unlocks after the first death, making it accessible through ordinary early progression. Clearing with Chunky unlocks Potato Thrower. The character's limited speed modification means obtaining Chunky is not the same as unlocking a movement based safety plan. Review the stat restrictions before trying to copy a guide written for a faster character.

Danger 5 decisions

Danger 5 advice is to reserve an escape route earlier because speed purchases cannot be assumed to solve positioning. Kill enough enemies to leave access to food, and avoid crossing a dense pack for a single consumable. Health adds damage here but does not remove the need for mitigation. Compare the next health item with armor when repeated contact is emptying the larger buffer.

Nightmare risk planning

For Nightmare, Chunky's challenge is recovering space after the slow character has been surrounded. Our recommendation is to improve coverage and choose the path of retreat before an encounter becomes crowded. Do not commit to a stationary damage exchange simply because maximum health is high. Consumable recovery needs reachable drops, so the build must preserve a way to obtain them.

Compare the weapon classes and available stats, unlock entry, Danger 5 rules, and Nightmare changes before adapting the loadout.

Chunky modifies max health by plus 25 percent and adds 1 percent damage per 3 max health. Consumables restore 3 health. Life steal is modified by minus 100 percent, regeneration and dodge by minus 50 percent, and speed by minus 100 percent. The unlock is dying once. A clear unlocks Potato Thrower. MetaBrotato describes a max-health crash build. I take that as the community shape: you are slow, you do not life steal, and the health bar is the damage stat. Buying life steal on Chunky fights the modifier on the character page.
