Starter builds
Updated for Brotato 1.2.0.1 · checked 2026-11-05

Two community sources agree on a habit, not on a single gun. brotato-builds tells a new player to fill six weapon slots and to avoid tiering one weapon up while the other slots are empty. The Steam all-character guide gives each character a main stat. I turn that into three starters you can copy on a first Danger 0 run.
Well Rounded is the default that does not ban a weapon type. Take a mix, buy harvesting or luck in the first shops, and fill the slots. Ranger is the ranged starter if you want guns without Mage's elemental lock. Mage starts with Snake and Scared Sausage and should stay on elemental weapons because melee and ranged modifiers are wiped out.
I am not going to invent a full item shopping list those pages do not print. The habit is the part they do print: six slots, one tag repeated, economy before you chase a red weapon.
